Orion Policy Institute hosted a live webinar on far-right online ecosystems. Our Senior Fellow Suat Cubukcu moderated the session.

Panelists Stuart Macdonald and Maura Conway from Swansea University and author J. M. Berger discussed their recent research on European far-right online ecosystems published by The RESOLVE Network. “The research report examines the outlinking activity of identified pro-far-right users among the followers of the official Twitter accounts of two prominent far-right European political parties, Germany’s Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) and France’s Rassemblement National (RN).”

Cyber Evolution of Terrorist Groups

Many real-world crimes have long been replicated in cyberspace. Terrorism and extremism are no different. Today’s terrorist groups exploit the advantages the Internet has to offer. Just like everything else, crime, terrorism, violence, and even war have transformed into cyberspace: online radicalization becomes as significant as face-to-face radicalization, violent groups emerge on online platforms, and states use hacker groups to attack their enemies. In such a context, cyberterrorism is becoming a national security concern.
